Vadio Tinto Red 2015 (Bairrada)

Regular price $28.00

Unit price per

Overview: Vadio's winemaker, Luis Patrao is doing it right! In 2017 Vadio was awarded Wine & Spirits Magazine’s top 100 wineries in the world. Luis founded Vadio in 2005 with his family’s small 1.2 acre vineyard in Bairrada. He brought on his father to farm the grapes and rehabbed an old rural pharmacy as his winery.

Bairrada, close to the Atlantic, is known for sparkling wine and suckling pig. The average vineyard size is a mere .05 acre. For decades, about 17,000 of the region’s 50,000 acres of vines have been abandoned by younger generations who inherited the land yet choose to live in the city. Young winemakers like Luis are seizing the opportunity to acquire vines and make the classic still and sparkling wines that rarely leave the region.

Wine Region: Bairrada

Varietals: 100% Baga

Alcohol: 12.5%

Tasting Notes: Earthy and vibrant, this tinto has notes of cranberry and mint. Matured in French Oak barrels, and grown in a mixture of clay and limestone soil, this wine has rich texture and great structure. I would suggest decanting it for a few hours so it can open up to its full potential.

Pairings: Roasted goat, pork or chicken, eggplant dishes and pastas with red sauce
